Labadi, also known as La, is a Peri-urban town in La Dade Kotopon Municipal District in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. It is located along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. It is bordered by Osu to the west and Teshie to the east.
Labadi is conveniently located and just 7.11 kilometers (3.04 miles) by road from Kotoka International Airport
That’s not all, Labadi is situated less than 10 minutes via Giffard Rd from Labadi Beach, the most popular beach in Ghana. Officially known as the La Pleasure Beach, Labadi Beach makes for a great stopover. It has a spacious shoreline lined with sparse coconut trees and plenty of activities on offer.
It offers a great urban beach experience, with a clean beachfront, good food and great music and new friends.
While you are at La Pleasure Beach you will never lack great food and drinks to make your experience complete. There are dozens of bars littered across the place, where you can enjoy cool beers and even try out the locally-brewed gin and spirits like Akpeteshi or Shocker. These very potent drinks, consumed in moderation, are the drink of choice for many local beachgoers. There are also hookah bars in smoking areas, for those who enjoy tobacco.
You can also give your taste buds a treat and indulge in the local favourites like charcoal-grilled tilapia, spicy kebabs and jollof rice that are sold for very cheaply. There are also stalls where you can buy continental dishes like french fries, burgers and salads.
So popular is Labadi beach that it makes the perfect hunting ground for Ghana’s beauties since it is usually filled on Fridays and Saturdays. If you, however, love your quiet then go there on weekdays. You can also go on horseback rides along the water for a very small fee.
To ensure you don’t return empty-handed, there are art stores in Labadi where you can purchase various artefacts like Krobo beads, rings, trinkets, wooden masks, etc.
When the sun sets and waters become too dark and dangerous to swim in, visitors retreat to the beach where they party until very late in the night. Live bands and reggae artists, as well as disco and pop DJs play for all-night raves around bonfires.
For such a lovely place paying a small access fee of about GH¢10 (US$2.30) is only fair.
Labadi Beach Hotel offers 5-star accommodation, as well as a private beach, outdoor tennis courts and a sauna. It is a 10-minute drive from Coco Beach and provides free private parking on site.
